An archer is a fire-support unit on the field of battle. While they are lightly armed and armored, they have the ability to fire and strike from great distances, allowing them the luxury of picking their targets carefully. An unsupported archer, however, is a quick kill for an opposing team.

From the Rulebook:

The term "Bushidoushido" from Japan means "The Way of Warrior" and the samurai had to learn the way of the bow and horse early on. The English archers were legendary for their longbows, and the Korean archers were reputed to fire massive showers that would darken the sky based upon the beating of drums.
